Residence is a duplex loft in the Historic Tribeca District that renovated
an existing 5th floor apartment and built a 4000sf setback rooftop
addition above.
To bring daylight down, two openings were sliced out of the existing roof structure
to filter daylight and space from above. One opening is located above the kitchen
and another larger opening incorporates the stair to the upper floor. The upper
floor also brings the outside in. The main living space floats because of the
two side openings. The concrete floor and skylights above give a cloud like quality
to this space, which opens directly to the main outdoor terrace facing west.
Adjacent to the living space, the master bedroom and bath open onto framed views
of another landscaped outdoor terrace facing east.
